History of Hillbrook

In July 1969, Harold and Della Duncan donated 54.5 acres of land to the newly established Hillbrook Christian Association, Inc. This association was charged with overseeing this property which would be used by members of the church of Christ for various religious activities such as worship, edification, evangelism, support of orphans, education, benevolence, etc.

One of the earliest uses of the Hillbrook property was the hosting of Teenage Christian Camp during the Summer months. TCC first began conducting camps in 1966, and later moved the camps to the Hillbrook property once facilities were built to accomodate the camp. Originally, TCC conducted one week of camp, but now conducts six weeks of camp each Summer.

In March 1985, Hillbrook granted a long-term, rent-free lease of 5.88 acres of land to the Karns Church of Christ. This lease is used to provide housing for ministerial students enrolled in the Southeast Institute of Biblical Studies (formerly East Tennessee School of Preaching and Missions).

In October 2001, Hillbrook transferred ownership of 17.92 acres of land to the Tennessee Children's Home, with the intent of providing Christian services for children and families. Tennessee Children's Home's East Campus is located adjacent to the Hillbrook property, and provides treatment for displaced families and residential care for boys 13-18 years of age.
